Spare parts

The Leonardo has been around since 1996 and as the number of vehicles grew several companies has made spare and performance parts available for it. According to a German magazine more than 100000 Leonardo had been produced by the middle of 2001.

You can of course buy spare parts from your local dealer, but in general there are a good selection of parts with either better performance or just better value for money available from other sources. The Leonardo is expensive enough to service, so there is no need to use original parts if better and/or cheaper ones are available. But check the price from your local dealer before buying spare parts from a third party. Aprilia has lowered the price on many items so some items are cheaper as an original.

Besides your local dealer you can get original Aprilia parts mail order. ZMG Motorsport [D] has adds in many magazines and Zweirad Zähringer (CentroMotori) [D] has also been around for many years.

Another option is to use second hand parts. It can be difficult to find what you need, but several companies make a living out of buying crashed/stolen or otherwise damaged scooters and salvage the parts. Two of the biggest are Scooters-R-US [UK] and Geiwiz [D] but many Aprilia shops also salvage parts and may have or can get the part you need. In general it looks like the price of a used item is around half the price of a new one.

But again before putting down the cash to buy the needed parts check with your local dealer. I know of a Dane who bought a complete new engine. It was cheaper than repairing the engine after its top end (valves/rockers) died at around 30000km.

But when it comes to performance parts two of the biggest brands are Malossi and Polini. Their parts are available in many places probably including your local shops.

Malossi has put their catalogue online. All items should be listed but they a lot of the pictures is still missing. Polini has also gotten their catalogue online . In the UK the Malossi importer VE has a list of Malossi Tech Centers (dealers) here. They have also made a special site for Malossi UK but the link to spare parts goes back to VE parts directory. Beside the performance part the also stock standard part and accessories like oil filters, mirrors etc.

One of the biggest Polini dealers in Northern Europe is Motoline [D] in Harrislee - just on the German side of the border to Denmark and they speak both German and Danish.

Other places to get Malossi and Polini parts mail order are ZMG Motorsport [D], Hester Motorsport [D], Scooter Center Köln [D] etc.

But remember that if you use non-Aprilia parts your warranty will be void.

I've split the lists in the following sections:
