After I had the Leonardo for a half a year I decided in January 1999 to get a windscreen. I bought the original Aprilia big one. It was the good looking one with the metal plates on the front of the plastic.
But on 2000.12.13 a strong wind tipped my scooter in the middle of the day. It was parked in the same spot as always (while I'm at work), but the wind must have come from an unusual direction. The result was some scratches on the left side of the scooter and a broken/bent windscreen. As you can see on the pictures it was a rather large piece that broke off. The fittings was also so bend that I couldn't turn the steering without the screen hitting the plastic. So it only lasted two years :-(
I then used the beginning of January 2001 to decide whether I wanted a new Aprilia windscreen or just buy a cheaper after market one. I really missed the screen for winter riding and ended up buying a cheap one for ~65euro from RollerShop2000.
It is a Fabbri (Bologna, Italy) and almost the same size as my old one (a bit wider at the top) but is a bit different in shape. RollerShop also sells one that is lower, but since it was the same price, I figured that I could just take a bit off the big one if I wanted a shorter one :-)
The fittings for the screen was not painted that well, so I gave them a spray with Hammerite paint. I have fitted it as low as possible to get the best possible protection for my hands, and it is still high enough to protect my head.
Unfortunately this did'nt even last a year for me because I crashed in November 2001. But I repaired it with Gaffa tape and rode with until my rebuild of the scooter in february 2002.
I'm not completely sure if the Givi D236S also fits a 250. I've just received the one I ordered two month ago. The Givi label simply states "Leonardo 96-99). Its the one that is fitted enstead of the original one. It provides some protection of the upper body but is not so high that the air flow hits my helmet. That is, the noise level is the same as with the original screen.
